Enermax FULMO GT Super Tower Case Review.

Enermax have recently released there supersized tower the FULMO GT, Toby Kirkby was lucky enough to get his hands on this mighty sized case and share it with us!

OUTSIDE – First impressions

Looking at the outside it is clear to see one dominating feature this being it’s HUGE size, this case means business, with outer dimensions of D 674 x W 235 x H 640 (mm), the case is also outfitted with four USB3 ports and eSATA. An additional dial and button control the speed and LED pattern of some of the pre-installed Vegas blue fans

Top Control

A rather attractive theme carried on the case is the use of honeycomb, both in almost all of the fan intakes and exhausts and in the mesh used on the case, including mesh grills with an embossed honeycomb pattern in them giving a very nice look to an otherwise flat area

HC

Looking at the back its clear to see this case is aimed at the serious enthusiast as a super gaming rig or a home server farm, the FULMO GT boasts no less than 10 expansion slots, mounting plates for 2 PSUs (one top one bottom) and 7 ports for water cooling.

Fulmo Rear

A Closer Look

Top and front bezels are made from very tough moulded plastic and have been kept fairly plain in design, there is an abundance of mesh making up both the bay covers and fan grills.

Bezel

The front bezel comes off easily with a sharp pull at the bottom giving quick access to the front of the chassis, as all the buttons and LEDs are mounted in the front of the top cover there are no wires at all inside the front bezel.

Under Bezel

With the bezel off we can see the exposed bays and fan mounts, in recent times a lot of cases have opted to mount fans between the chassis and bezel, making the fans easier to maintain, there is space under the bezel for two 120 or 140mm fans.

Partition

The case comes with an 180mm Vegas installed between the chassis and HDD cages, both the drive blanks and fan intakes are formed from Honey Comb perforated steel (punched out of the chassis for the fan intake).

Cage

Power and reset buttons along with indicator LEDs and fan control are mounted on the top along with 4 full USB3 ports, standard audio ports and eSATA. As already mentioned the fan control and LED setting is also in the top, towards the back of the top we have a large removable fan cover/dust filter.

Under top

There is just over an inch of usable space between chassis and top filter, plenty of space for fans although there is more than enough space inside the chassis where the 230mm top fan is already fixed (roof mounts 2x230mm fans inside chassis or three 120/140mm fans inside chassis or inside roof space)

Space

The left door holds two preinstalled 180mm Vegas fans and can hold a total of four 180mm fans

The rear can hold a 140mm fan, the floor can mount a single 230mm fan or two 120/140mm fans, and a nice addition is mounting for two 140mm fans on the side of the HDD cage.

Side outer

Side

The floor fans are filtered but this comprises of a perforated plastic sheet and is not only hard to change for cleaning but is very cheaply made and may snap.

Floor

Bottom

A final note on fans – A 90 or 120mm thin fan can be mounted in the right side panel for cooling the back of the CPU socket.

Right

Under the covers

Once we get the side off a few minor issues begin to show, with the up scaling of the dimensions from the standard FULMO the material was only thickened by .1mm leaving the larger panels a little flimsy, this is most apparent on the side panel as it already has a lot of material removed for the side window. This is also apparent with the motherboard tray although that will stop being an issue with a motherboard installed.

To continue on the motherboard plate as you can see it has two separate cut-outs for multi CPU motherboards, and to say there is plenty of rubber grommet holes for cables would be an understatement, there are more than most would ever need to use and this may lend to the flimsiness of the motherboard plate but it is nice to have so many available for those pesky cables and the grommets are placed to be convenient for a variety of motherboard sizes.

Gromit

Close to an inch of space is left behind the MB tray and gives more then ample room for any cable job needed.

MB gap

The HDD cages are very well built and even have some cross bracing, each of the ten HDD trays are exceptionally strong with a honeycomb floor for heat dissipation, these are literally strong enough to stand on. These come fitted with dampening grommets and can also accommodate SSD drives.

HDD cage

The bottom PSU can be tied down with a provided Velcro strap to prevent vibration and has venting in the bottom of the case to allow for air intake form beneath the case.
There Is a small panel gap where the IO backplane meets the expansion slots, the reason for this is unknown but may be for cables to run through should the need arise.

The case sits on 4 very large and tough feet with rubber anti vibration inserts (alternate castors are supplied) and can be fitted very easily.
You will have no problem what so ever in fitting the longest graphics cards on the market the FULMO GT can accommodate graphics cards up to 425mm and can house a CPU cooler of up to 119mm (with side fan removed).

A note on radiators

All in all the FULMO GT can house several radiators (WITHOUT chassis modification) including

3×120/140mm in the roof  up including ultra thick 5cm upwards as without a top mounted secondairy PSU there is over 6 inches of space between the board edge and the roof

(2x 120/140 if you mount a PSU in the top)

2x140mm on the inside of the HDD bays

2×120/140 in the floor

Accessories

The accessory box included contains all the screws you will need to fill all the case hardware slots, including system speaker, HDD screws, SSD screws and a variety of other useful system screws, Enermax have also included some Velcro style ties, some regular cable ties and a full set of castors.

Fulmo GT

Pros

Supports multi CPU motherboards

Supports ultra-long graphics cards
USB3
10 expansion slots
Superb air cooling options
Plenty of cable management options
Twin PSU
Massive potential for advanced water cooling

It will fit radiators with 15mm spacing in 2x120mm/ 2x140mm, 3x120mm/140mm, and 4x120mm sizes

Cons

Some panels may be slightly flimsy due to size and material thickness
Bottom filter is both unnecessary and cheaply sourced
Side panels very fiddly to remove and reattach (on our sample)

Tower

Conclusion
Despite a few niggling features on this case such as the hard to replace sides and some panels being quite thin this is all in all a very good Super Tower with tons of air and water cooling possibilities easily housing the latest in fans and water cooling solutions, without a PSU in the top socket this case can even fit a stack or Radiators and fans 2 or 3 layers deep and will easily accommodate the majority of today’s reservoirs, pumps snd other cooling extras with room left over for the most insane gaming rig.

I’ve been recommending the Fulmo GT to folks looking for a full tower that can handle anything. The Fulmo mid tower is a nice case too, who can resist those amazing fans? Can be found here:

Anyway Enermax products are pretty cool in my opinion.

Excellent review as always Bill!!

Wondering if this case is anywhere near the size of the Cooler Master Cosmos II…now there’s a case to be reckoned with.

The review is by my good self, Bill was kind enough to allow me the use of his blog

the CMII measures 344(W) x 704(H) x 664(D)mm / 13.5 x 27.7 x 26.1 inch

And the fulmo GT is (D) 674 x (W) 235 x (H) 640

On the outside by the numbers it apperes the CM2 is slightly bigger, BUT, ths includes the feet and top bars on the CM and its curved top and front, the actual useable space is atleast 15% less then the stated specs, whereas the Fulmo GT only looses around 3% if you remove all the plastics

The GT also allows for a lot more fitting and placement without modification to the chassis, the red support is frankly amazing, the GT is not the best case in the world i don’t think any case can claim than honor but for an advanced water cooler it is very very good indeed, the chassis is clean and strong even though the side panels lack rigidity, and could be cut to pieces and keep its strength, im not so sure the same can be said about the CMII, in addition the GT supports twin PSU and server style motherboards, the CMII can not

Very well written review. Answered every question I had as I was asking them in my head. Almost disturbingly.

I disagree about this being a very good “review”. It didn’t really review the case; it was just a description of it. There was no attempt to actually assemble a system, there were no cooling benchmarks and no noise benchmarks. I didn’t learn anything more than I did by visiting the seller’s website. :-( I’m still left in the dark as to how this compares to the Level 10 GT in regards to cooling and noise.

#13 posted February 15th, 2012 at 6:12pm

Toby Kirkby Website

A comparison to the Level 10 GT would not be in any way fair as a comparison, the Fulmo packs in far more fans and is a completely different size both internal and , so simply saying “this is louder than a Level 10 GT” would not be any kind of useful information. The fans and the fan speeds used will alter the answer to that question. The 2 cases are as alike as Chalk and Cheese

I also draw your attention to the meaning of the word review

re·view/riˈvyo͞o/
Noun:
A formal assessment or examination of something.
Verb:
Examine or assess (something) with the possibility or intention of instituting change if necessary.
Synonyms:
noun. inspection – survey – parade – magazine – revision
verb. revise – examine – inspect – reconsider

Criteria met, the case was assessed for quality
