“Project Garmr” PC guards entrance to the Afterworld.
I asked “Yoj” from ModMag to tell us about “Project Garmr” by Tirex, who is from Ukraine and built the Itzamna HTPC we recently featured. His creations are otherworldly and always conversational. Yog writes: The name “Garmr” is a reference to norse mythology, where Garmr is a huge four eyed dog, that guards the entrance to the afterworld – something like Cerberus in the greek mythology.
The project is based on a cheap no-name PC case, which was subjected to lots chopping and cropping – that, along with custom fabricated parts, has changed the shape dramatically.
As you can see, there is a clear automotive/engine theme in this project, which is supported by many different parts.
There are some very interesting parts, such as a something like a cam-shafts in a DOHC engine, which are driven by a small electric motor, there are even simulated spark plugs with blue leds in this project.
Plus a dedicated mp3 player with speakers to play the engine sound. And what an automotive project without parts such as exhaust pipes, a hood, shocks, etc?
Another interesting feature of this project is a cooling system for the hard drives, that is based on Thermaltake TMG ND1 video card coolers – they are mounted on the case’s side panel.
I can’t really tell much about the hardware in this project, as it was originally started in the autumn of 2008, but the project has a Thermaltake watercooling system integrated in it’s chassis.
Also this project participated in a few local modding contests and scored some impressive results, like the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the EasyCOM’s contest, Korol Moddinga 2009 (“King of Modding 2009″) by Modding.ru and Domashniy PK (“Home PC”) by a local ukrainian PC magazine, respectively. You can view the “Garmr” modding project worklog on ModMag.net, HERE and subscribe to Tirex’s YouTube channel to watch past and future builds. Thanks again to “Yoj” for sharing the details!

Pretty nice. A little over the top for me, but still very impressive. I like the induction hood over the disc drive the most.
