The HAMMERHEAD HMR989 PC is offered by DARWINmachine, a design firm in San Francisco, CA. I would have guessed the HMR989′s creator, Matthew Kim had background in race car engineering. I found the overall design reminiscent of a modified car chassis. Shed weight while implementing elements to enhance structural strength and stability.

DARWINmachine, Industrial Design & Technology is a San Francisco Bay Area design firm dedicated to bringing extraordinary, cutting-edge design to ordinary, everyday products. DARWINmachine is currently working on creating a new generation of computing machines with unique styling inspired by high performance aircraft and racing machinery. Each DARWINmachine is beautifully crafted from the highest quality materials. Thoroughly modern, DARWINmachines will evolve and expand with new designs that continue to challenge the standard. The HMR989 construction consists of “Eco-resin” plastic and machined aluminum plates that have been anodized Blue.
Eco Resin panels are created from waste plastics taken from the fronts of old vending machines and point-of-sale units. This waste is recycled to create a clear resin panel that can be used throughout our households. The fact that it comes from recycled products means that eco resin panels score high in terms of being eco-friendly, but there are other more practical & creative reasons as to why eco resin panels are such a innovative material.

Matthew designs and builds each Hammerhead HMR989 PC himself. Each one has it’s own unique serial number.

HMR989′s “open air” design does benefit the Thermaltake “SpinQ” cpu cooler, however an unfiltered PC will raise concern about dust with consumers.

The HAMMERHEAD is a refreshing change from the traditional computer cases. It looks interesting from all viewing angles.

It’s refreshing to see a company like Darwin Machine bring new designs to the PC industry. My professional advice is to consider offering another chassis as a DIY kit with more hardware options. I predict more consumers will want to install their own hardware versus purchasing a system. You also deflect the “Help Desk” support factor that comes with selling custom-built PCs. Open air means that a lot more dust is going to accumulate on it and make it hard to keep clean looking
but its a very unique design …..it would be awesome with some water cooling to make it even more extreme design wise

Standoff Pr0n! Change the Blue and white materials to brushed aluminum and it would have a great industrial minimalist feel to it.

This is an aggressive, stunning case. Granted, this thing will eat dust but this is a beauty, it’s a piece of art.

I agree, this case is amazing. I think for an open air case water cooling would be a better solution since they can leave it open, yet isolate the radiator accordingly.

This is such a cool Project. Its not just some artistic vision of a Nightmare gone wrong but a way of looking at computers that is completely and literally outside of the box. Very nice and well thought out and color coordination and the shape and style is not combative but invites the viewer to see computing in a hole new light. I could see a mass market of this model.. Called the Game Bender.

Very unique design, it kinda refreshing. I bet the CM V8 would look awesome on the case, of course modded to match the theme.
